The Guardian’s hypocrisy is disgusting

“Articles in the Guardian of Tuesday 12 July incorrectly reported that the Sun newspaper had obtained information on the medical condition of Gordon Brown’s son from his medical records. In fact the information came from a different source and the Guardian apologises for its error (The Brown files: How Murdoch papers targeted ex-PM’s family, 12 July, page 1; When Brown decided that the Sun was out to destroy him politically, 12 July, page 2).”

From ‘Corrections and clarifications’.

And what a correction that is. In a period of time when all eyes are on the media, you would think that the Guardian and their holier-than-thou attitude wouldn’t stick a lie on the front page of their newspaper. In trying to smear News International they accused both The Sun and The Sunday Times of wrongdoing. Guido writes,

“This combined Guardian/Brown attack has now completely unravelled, with the Sunday Times editor John Witherow rebutting the claim that it employed a criminal to blag for information about Brown’s flat purchase from Robert Maxwell’s estate in a dubious deal brokered by Geoffrey Robinson.  Witherow is adamant that it was a legitimate investigation, in the public interest.”

Attacking the red-top Sun was probably an easy task for them to do, but by drawing The Sunday Times into it they are starting a moral mudslinging amongst the broadsheet press. Considering they led with a lie on the front page of their paper, I would suggest they kept schtum on matters of media responsibility and morality.

As The Sun just tweeted, the apology is hidden away on page 36 in the Guardian. Luckily The Sun won’t let this go, nor should it, and so their 2.6 million readers in the ABC1 demographic will know either way.
